New Car Accessories

Last night I got my first ever, brand new car! I'm sure the whole world is sick and tired of hearing me talk about my dream of a white SUV with a third row; I know Christopher was! After much debating on body styles and features, we decided to go with a Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium. It met all of my "requirements": white, tan leather, third row, sunroof; and was sporty looking in the body style for him.

But now comes the fun part: the accessories. The hubs puts nothing on his car, but I like a little personality and flair {monogram, anyone?}. These are a few things I'd like to deck "Fancy the 4Runner."

My favorite pewter GS Alumni license plate frame is nowhere to be found!
This one from Amazon would be a good alternative.

If not going the Georgia Southern route, I am loving all things marble right now.
A monogrammed set from Etsy would do the trick!

Speaking of marble and monograms...I may have already ordered
this Moon & Lola keychain in the "Blonde Tortoise" marble-y color
with my gold monogram!

I've never really had to think about a trailer hitch before, but
this cover would be the perfect way to show my GS pride!

September Recipe Review

via
This month consisted of a bunch of really yummy and really easy meals, which I love. My favorite by far, which I plan on making on the reg now, was this one dish garlic & herb pork tenderloin by The Seasoned Mom. The best part, besides the one dish deliciousness, is that there is almost zero prep with the pre-marinated pork tenderloin. It's also a really quick 30 minute meal, so great for after work.  On our potatoes and carrots, we used our favorite seasoning, Charlie's Choice {the spicy one of course!}. Charlie's Choice was actually a part of a wedding gift, and it truly changed our kitchen. I use it on everything, but especially potatoes. It's become my go-to for seasoning salmon as well!

Charlie's Choice
To go with our easy dish, I whipped up some creamy cheesy spinach that was a recipe from my friend Kim at one of my bridal showers! I honestly wish I had made more, and it was the perfect rich, green, compliment to our dish. The meal as a whole also saved really well, and was what I craved every day for lunch for days after which is rare for me as I can't really deal with leftovers.

After a month of really great work news for CJM, I wanted to celebrate, and thought scallops for dinner one Friday night would be just the way to do that! I purchased some frozen scallops from our local meat market, thawed them, and then cooked them following this recipe I found on Pinterest. Amazing! I added red pepper flakes to the mix, and it was soooooo good. We ate all of the scallops that night!

With the scallops we had roasted asparagus, tossed with Charlie's Choice again, and baked parmesan sweet potatoes. These were yummy, and made a lot which packed well with some grilled chicken for lunches during the week.

Who's excited for October tomorrow? I am!! It's birthday month, and I'll be turning 25. Goodness...I remember when 25 felt so old, and I still remember 16 entirely too well!

Mugs & Movies Review | Bridget Jones's Baby

On Tuesdays, our local movie theater offers $5 "Stimulus Tuesday" ticket prices, with a discount on food and drinks, too. How I've only just discovered this, I'm not sure. I'm not really a big movie-goer, but when there is a discount involved, I'm game.

One of my favorite movies is Bridget Jones's Diary, so when I saw the preview for the third installment in the series, Bridget Jones's Baby, I was so excited! The bestie and I decided to head over to the theater this past Tuesday to watch it at a discounted price. But the best part? It was in Mugs & Movies, which is a special screening room inside the theater that serves adult beverages and legit food! Plus, they have way comfier chairs, and unlimited popcorn. I'm down for that any day of the week!

While the food wasn't anything to write home about, the atmosphere was fun, and the movie was soooo cute. It was kind of long, but I didn't notice a bit from laughing the entire time. Go see it this weekend, it's great for a girls night out!

Happy Friday!

Mud Pie Fall Preview

A few weeks ago when I went a visited my mom in South Carolina, we had a bit of a Saturday shopping spree for fall clothes. I'm super ready for fall, so much so that the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale two weeks ago was not even a blip on my radar because I am totally over summer. In South Georgia at least, it feels like it's been in the 90's since Christmas {It was 85 degrees on Christmas day, so we are due a cold snap for sure!}.

While we were out and about, we stumbled upon the cutest shop, Minnie's Giftique, which had a ton of the upcoming Mud Pie fall collection. I love Mud Pie, and have worn it a lot in the last year like at our I Do BBQ wedding shower, and my bachelorette party. Mud Pie also has a ton of home decor and holiday items that we registered for and that I plan on purchasing myself.

To say I fell in love with this collection is an understatement. The number of times I've talked about it to friends is borderline obsessive. It was all fall perfection: chambray, stripes, rich reds, plaids, and more! It felt like you could walk in and purchase a completed capsule wardrobe for the cooler months. And the best part, is that it's all reasonably priced with most things under $62!

I got this poncho/scarf and cannot wait to wear it in a few weeks when it's cooler!
I've spent the last month searching the web to order more, but finally found out that the collection will be going live on the Mud Pie website on September 15! Until then, check out these videos from their awesome YouTube channel to get a glimpse of these versatile pieces.

Summer 2016 Bucket List

How are we already halfway through June? Christopher graduates from pharmacy school this weekend {cue the Hallelujah Chorus}, and will be on a graduation trip next week before starting his job full time. Then we'll have July 4th followed by Amanda's wedding the next weekend, and summer will be halfway done!

It's feeling like it's all kind of escaping me too quickly; wasn't life supposed to slow down after the wedding? So I thought I'd sit down and come up with a list of things I want to accomplish, some fun and some not so fun, before life gets truly hectic again later in the year.

  1. Spend some time at Jekyll Island | Christopher has never been, and I go each year for work trips. It's wonderful! Great beaches and great food, with plenty to explore: new and old!
  2. Clean out {and clean up!} the wedding and Christmas rooms | yes, I have one for both. Although, the Christmas room has become the dumping ground for all of Christopher's things as he moved his stuff in the week before the wedding. I've been working through the wedding room, sorting all of our lovely gifts and finding a home for each of them, while trying to create an office/study space for Dr. PharmD.
  3. Move the curio cabinet in | My grandparents gave me a large curio cabinet for my birthday almost 15 years ago {sounds so funny--15 years?!} that I displayed dolls and mementos in. I've never moved it out of my mom's house because it's giantly heavy, and I also didn't live anywhere that accommodate such a large piece of furniture. Now that we are living in an actual house we have enough room, and so many beautiful wedding gifts and serving pieces to display in it!
  4. Host a summer soiree | Another great thing about our house is giant yards to have fun in! I'd love to invite our friends over for a cookout with our new grill and the cornhole boards Christopher made for our wedding...that we forgot to put out on the day of...oops. We'll have to wait for the evenings too cool off a little though...it's in the 100's here this week!
  5. Make at least one new recipe a month | this is kind of a goal for our first year of marriage, too. It's so easy to get into a cooking-rut {we had tacos four times in a week earlier this month}, so I want to be intentional about expanding my cooking skills and filling my monogrammed recipe box from my bridal shower!
  6. Financially plan for a new car | I want a new car. Pretty much anyone around me has heard of my desires for a third row, specifically a 4Runner in white, with tan leather and a sunroof. I've never bought a car myself, and don't want to run out there all willy-nilly and buy the first one I see. I've test driven one and loved it, so I know what I want, but I need to wait for the right one at the right price. I also don't want to put any unnecessary stress on our financial status as a couple by making such a big purchase too soon! Money is one of those things that we agree on 99% of the time, and we enjoy working towards our goals together. We can really focus on our finances once Christopher starts working full time, and I'm excited to do this as a team!
  7. Spend more time with family | I've not seen my family since we got married, and that was almost two months ago! I can't believe how time flies. I'm hoping to see them all more, and maybe take a trip to North Georgia to spend a few days with the grands, too.
  8. Plan trips | we had the absolute best time on our honeymoon; I literally think about it every day! While we have a few trips planned in the upcoming months for weddings and things, I really want to plan a few couples trips and maybe even a family vacation for us to go on! Spending time together as a couple, and also as a couple with our families is very important to me. First on the list? A long weekend at Disney to celebrate both of our 25th birthdays in the fall! Then maybe a Christmas family vacation? And something special for our one year anniversary in the spring! Any ideas?
  9. Try new restaurants | Christopher and I love trying new places with amazing food. We've covered a lot of the Savannah staples, but there are some gems out here "in the country" that we've yet to hit.
  10. Learn to make fancy cookies | my bestie and I are obsessed with every royal iced sugar cookie we come across. We're constantly tagging each other in those oh-so-soothing Instagram videos of cookies being decorated. She's attempted some on her own, and now I want to try! I love the fancy cookies!
What's on your summer bucket list?

How I Saved Hundreds Using Vistaprint for My Wedding

Weddings are expensive. Just how expensive? Averages in recent years come in anywhere between $27,000 and $35,000 depending on your area of the country. Those are staggering numbers. Those numbers equal a new car, or a down payment on a house!

I like to live life on the frugal side, and I've been very intentional about being as conservative as possible when planning my wedding which can be extremely difficult with a glamorous, southern theme. Looking at Save the Date and invitation suite ideas quickly became overwhelming regarding my budget. While I loved the beautiful pieces at some of the well-known invitation sites, I couldn't stand the price tag. We would be needing at least 150 complete suites, and some of the designs ran upwards of $1,000 for all the necessary pieces! Factor in postage, and my budget was blown.

So I began to consider other options. I'm not even sure how I initially stumbled upon Vistaprint, but I quickly realized that financially, this was the way to go. Vistaprint has a large selection of Save the Date and wedding invitation designs, some of which can be magnets or cards, and all in a variety of styles and sizes to fit your budget.

I was really particular about what Save the Date design I wanted. I knew this would set the tone for our big day. I also really wanted a vertical picture design for a magnet which ended up being harder to find than I could have ever expected! Luckily, Vistaprint also has a design option that I was able to utilize. I located a free Save the Date template that we both loved which I uploaded to the designer. Two steps, and I was done! The price {which ended up being less than a dollar a piece, thanks to a promotion running at that time} included the large magnet and matching envelopes, and more than fit into my budget.

My only issue with the Vistaprint process is that the freebie included envelopes are incredibly thin. For me, it wasn't a big deal to use them for the Save the Date mailings, and the inner envelope of the wedding invitation suite. But the amazingly quick production and shipping times easily make up for that small inconvenience. I received a lot of positive feedback about the magnets, which are not too thick or thin {just the right weight for a regular 49 cent stamp!}. I think everyone loved the vertical look as it really stands out on their refrigerator.

Christopher and I went back and forth about the best design for our wedding invitation. We're very traditional, so we tend to lean towards classic designs, but sometimes the invitation suite is the best place to throw in something a little trendier. Ultimately we decided on this customizable design from Vistaprint. There are a few popular color choices, and the pale pink was perfect for our wedding palette. There were also a few different paper weights and materials, to really customize each look to your liking.

I loved how Vistaprint has pre-designed complimentary pieces for the RSVP card, the wedding program, and more. We had the invitation, the RSVP card and corresponding pre-addressed envelope, and a business card designed to match the suite which included our wedding website where all accommodations and directions information was listed.

Because I think the traditional two envelopes is important, I ordered matching pink envelopes from a different vendor. I loved how the paper shimmered in the light. I addressed everything with two different sized gold calligraphy pens from Hobby Lobby. The suite is wrapped up in a satin ribbon, with a gold wax seal featuring an 'M'. The wax seal was probably the coolest part, even though it took me forever. It's actual made to fit in the glue gun! Anyone who knows me knows that the idea of dripping wax neatly onto a specific spot was just not going to happen.

I purchased an embossing stamp before I even sent out the Save the Dates and let me tell you, this thing has been a life saver. There is no way I could have written my address on the back of 300 Save the Dates and wedding invitations in a timely manner! Even though the embossing sometimes made my hand a little tired, this is an easy task for a helper to do if you choose to go this route.

I’ve received a ton of wedding invitations in the last year or so, and I know a lot of friends who have planned weddings recently. With that being said—one of the biggest dilemmas facing brides and guests alike {myself included} is who to invite. For some, it's adults only. For others, no invitation is sent and it's just featured in the local newspaper. We found ourselves in an interesting mix with a very specific guest list.

In an effort to be clear from the beginning, and not hurt any feelings after assumptions were made, we created two RSVP cards. One was the traditional format, seen below, and the other was identical with the exception of a brief line stating "The bride & groom have reserved ___ seats for you." While addressing the inner envelope in theory should clearly identify who specifically is invited, this is not always the case. I have been invited to a few weddings where my long standing fiance was not included on the invitation. Of course spouses, fiance/fiancee's, and long-term significant others that we knew were included, but we felt that while we could not accommodate every sweet child or plus one, this would be the best way to communicate our inclusions.

We also decided to omit the traditional "M" on the RSVP response line, as neither of us are huge fans of it, and because it is becoming increasingly accepted and popular to remove the confusing "M!"

I loved the additional swirling infinity details included on the backs of the cards, and the back flap of the RSVP envelope. All of the products felt like they came from a more expensive vendor, and we've been incredibly pleased with the results. Overall, I spent just over $500 for the magnets, the entire wedding suite and postage. Not too bad!

P.S. Don't forget to number the backs of the RSVP cards in case a few are returned without names on them! This has been a lifesaver. Also, find a good tracking system to keep all addresses, names of invitees, and responses in one place. I've used this one, and it's been great!

The MOH That Knows: Allison

A complement to my "Being a Bride" series, I've worked with my own Maid of Honor to craft questions for "The MOH That Knows" which features tips and tricks to make the MOH role a piece of {wedding} cake! The first MOH featured is Allison, a new blogger buddy of mine!

Name: Allison Ellzey

Bride & Groom: Chad + Rebecca

Wedding Date: July 2015
Wedding Location: Jackson, MS
Number in Bridal Party: 7

How did you meet the bride and groom? I went to college with both of them and was actually there when they met on Spring Break! Rebecca and I lived together my Senior year of college.
How did the bride ask you to be her MOH? I basically knew I was going to be the MOH already--so her asking me was really just a formality! I had a box of goodies with a little popper, a mini bottle of wine and nail polish!

What about the dress?  I went with Rebecca to pick out the bridesmaids dresses as did another bridesmaid. It was important to her to have the dresses be flattering on all body types. I’m super short, another bridesmaid was really tall, the other, just had a baby! The dresses were purchased from David’s Bridal; we tried on about 3-4 and then went with the best one. I know she valued my opinon (and believe me, I gave it to her!).

Pre-wedding Events: I coordinated the Bachelorette Party. I wrote an entire post on it here.  The event's theme was gold, and pink and navy! I bought and made some of the decor; I worked at a catering company so I got some of the food for cheap and I ordered most of the decor off of Etsy.

Budgeting to be the MOH: Budget close to $500 to be on the safe side {Allison estimated she spent about $750, including the dress, gift, bachelorette, transportation, and the wedding--over a year’s long engagement.}. I like to go overboard. But your dress will cost about $200, a hotel room for the wedding about $100+ and then there’s the bachelorette party. If you’re doing it yourself (or have bridesmaids who don’t want to pay) you’ll be footing the bill yourself.

Being the Best: I was there for the bride for EVERY monotonous and minute question she had. I listened to her family drama, helped her pick which gray looked better, etc. Like I’ve mentioned before, I have a strong opinion on most things, and I’m not afraid to be honest. I was honored to be the MOH. That meant that she trusted me to handle most issues when it came to planning a wedding.

Allison is a blogger buddy I stumbled upon through another blogging friend {Hi, Megan!} on Twitter. She's also a Phi Mu! She wrote a post that included a bunch of tips that I hope you'll check out: http://www.allisonsaysso.com/2015/10/how-to-be-the-best-MOH.html
